I was eventually let into the house last night well after dark, but I had to howl for a while and there was certainly no chance of getting on the bed. This morning the postman pushed something called a ‘dry-cleaning bill’ through the door and the Owner now seems more intent on this ludicrous obedience-training regime than ever, only without Molly I had to suffer his own useless attempts. He was sour, but at least the treats were good and plentiful. I played along while they lasted and then ran off to catch up with Scottie, who had just arrived. When I got there his owner was shouting at Dottie’s and waving a fist in his face. Ignoring the spotty bitch and her red-faced human, I ran down to the pond with Scottie to check progress on his earthworks.

There wasn’t much, except that the sock had gone. Scottie whispered that he had ‘buried it elsewhere, fur tae keep it safe.’

He seemed nervous and about to say something else, but before he could bark it out, the Owner caught up with me and I was clipped and dragged off. Scottie got a pat, which was more than I did.
