Example Sequencing

The selection of examples is critical, but even good examples can’t teach effectively when not presented in a proper teaching sequence. Let’s take a look at the benefits of example selection and sequencing. I’m going to teach you something on the subject of Graphic Geometry (a subject I just made up). The concept that I want you to understand is called “Osh,” and it is a crucial foundational concept in the area of Graphic Geometry. I could begin by just telling what Osh is and explaining why it is important, but I’m going to teach from the position that it is better if you simply discover authentic examples on your own. So what I’ll do is simply find examples of Osh in the real world and let you interact with those examples in whatever authentic way you may wish. To begin, I will show you an example of Osh that is readily available in the classroom. After that we’ll just troll through random books in the class, and I’ll ask you to identify other things that look like Osh. I’ll facilitate this by pointing to obvious Osh examples as they appear.
