Chapter Ten
âThank you so much,â Ambie thanked the cashier in the hospital cafeteria as she passed her the bottled water she purchased. Arley was talking in her ear, but she had already zoned him out.
âJust support me, ma. Thatâs all mi ask of you.â
âI will not, Arley Kingston. I refuse to get close to a child that I know for a fact doesnât have the same blood as us running through their veins. I just want to go home.â She started to cry again.
âThe test says thatâs mi child, and mi and yuh both know DNA doesnât lie.â
âThe baby looks just like that boy, Arley and something deep in spirit lets me know that you know that baby belongs to him. Donât you?â
He turned and looked away, and she snatched his head back to her. âIf I find out that you had something to do with those results being rigged because you wanted a relationship with that girl, I will hurt you for hurting me. I wonât stand around and take this. I am broken and Iâm ready to go back to Jamaica.â She turned and walked off with Arley in tow.
âAt least let me walk you to the car, ma.â
With tears in her eyes, she rushed for the exit. There wasnât a time that Arley didnât have his security close by, but that day was supposed to be about family so they took their own car.
âMama!â Arley yelled when he saw the black pickup truck pull up in front of her. In just the blink of an eye, bullets sprayed from the AK47 gun that the driver was holding, piercing Ambieâs body with multiple bullets at one time. Her body jerked around from the bullets hitting her, but the shot to her eye was the fatal shot. The truck sped off and one of the passengers threw a Haitian flag out the window.
He rushed to his mother and dropped to his knees.
âNo, God please. Nuh mi muda.â He held her and rocked her backwards and forwards.
Doctors and nurses rushed out of the hospital and over to Arley, but they all knew she was gone.
âHelp mi please.â He sobbed and looked around for their help. âNuh just stand there! Help!â he cried. âMi sorry muda. Mi so sorry.â He held her lifeless body close to him and screamed.
Once the scene was filled with police, they dragged him away and tried to question him, but he was like a mummy. He couldnât move and his eyes were still landed on his mother. Horrible deaths were all that was on his mind. Maxâs family wanted war, but it was deeper than war for him. He was going to give them just what they didnât want, and he wasnât going to stop until their whole entire family was dead. Kids included.

Lilâ Lace wasnât even a week old, and Victory was beyond stressed and already felt that she was going to have PPD. After Ambieâs death at the hospital, Victory knew that she wasnât going to have peace anytime soon.
