Tank was so fucking confused that it wasn’t even funny. How did the human race survive with all of these dangers about? He followed Mo into a dark room filled with a lot more humans than he cared to come into contact with.

“Holy fuck,” some guy at a wooden counter shouted. “How tall are you?”

Tank looked down as his body. He never really thought of himself as tall. Many beings he came into contact with were taller than him, so it was never an issue. Tank looked around the room to see several very short humans staring at him. “Tall enough.”

“I bet you could crush a person with your bare hands.” The man snickered. “How much do you bench press?”

“Bench what?”

“Nothing,” Mo said as he grabbed Tank’s arm and pulled him away. “He’s drunk, so don’t pay him any attention. As a matter of fact…” Mo looked over at Tank and Livewire. “Don’t say a word to anyone. I’ll do all the talking.”

“Thank fuck,” Tank said as Mo looked around the dimly lit bar.

“He’s not here.” Mo lightly smacked Tank’s chest with the back of his hand. “Let’s try the next dive.”

Tank liked this less and less, but they needed to get the hell off of this planet. He’d feel a whole lot better if he knew what the fuck Mo was talking about. He was tired of asking the human to clarify every little damn thing so he was just going to keep his mouth shut.

They ended up checking in three more bars until Mo pointed to a man sitting in a back booth. “That’s Slick Sammy right over there.”

“Why do they call him that?” Livewire asked as he stared at the skinniest being he had ever laid eyes on.

“Because the little shit thinks he’s slick for starters. He ain’t. And his hair is as greasy as a chop shop floor.”

There he goes again. Tank was seriously considering grabbing a translator the next time they visited Paktil. The thought of Zackary’s home planet had an ache pulling at Tank’s chest. He would do Tank’s Tweak

anything to get his mate home to see his mom and perform the rituals and customs to make them bonded mates.

“He’s gonna run. You can bet your Aunt Sally’s ass on that one.

Don’t let him get away though. He’ll also try and reason with you.

You wouldn’t believe some of the crap he tries to weave. Just remember that he’s full of shit.”

Tank rubbed his temples as Mo approached Slick Sammy. Mo didn’t even get a word out before the scrawny human shot out of the booth and ran for the back door. Tank only had to take a few steps before he yanked the fucker up by his collar. “I don’t think so.”

“Take it outside,” a man behind the wooden counter shouted.

Tank pushed open the back door as he and Livewire walked out into a narrow alleyway, Mo following close behind.

“What the hell do you want?” Slick Sammy squawked.

“I need the fifty bucks you owe me, and the hired muscle ain’t gonna wanna hear any shit you gotta say.
