She wanted to. Oh, she wanted to, Peg admitted as Cutter’s big, warm hands spanned her waist and drew her against his hips so she could feel how very, very bad he wanted to be.

And it shocked and excited and embarrassed her to realize that she might have crossed the line from wanting to wanton right then—right there in the Dusk to Dawn parking lot—if the sound of footsteps crunching over gravel and Krystal’s concerned, “Peg? You out here, honey?” hadn’t brought her to her senses.

She pushed Cutter away, drew a steadying breath.

“Over here, Krystal.” She heard the huskiness in her voice, felt Cutter’s gaze, dark and hot on her face.

Her heart was still racing when Krystal rounded Peg’s truck. She stopped short when she saw Cutter—looked from him to Peg then back to Cutter again. There was little doubt that she’d figured out exactly what they’d been doing—or about to do.

“Thought that was you I saw walk into the bar,” Krystal said, watching Cutter thoughtfully.

“How’s it going, Krystal?” Cutter leaned a shoulder against the fender and tucked his hands in his back pockets.

“It’s goin’ just fine. You?”

One corner of his mouth lifted in a tight smile—more grimace than grin. “Never better.”

Again, she glanced from Peg to Cutter then demonstrated why she’d never been known for her subtly. “So, what brings you back to Sundown?”

Cutter locked his gaze on Peg’s. It was so hot she felt the sizzle sear her cheeks. “Just a little unfinished business.”

Krystal gave Cutter another hard stare and switched her attention to Peg. “You okay?” She looked as if she was trying to decide if this was a good thing or a bad thing, finding the two of them together.

Peg smiled uneasily. “I just needed some air. And now I think I’m going to call it a night. It’s…it’s getting a little late for me.”

Krystal narrowed her eyes. “Can you drive okay?”

“I’m fine,” Peg insisted. At least she thought she was. That kiss had been one sobering experience. One sobering, sensual, scary experience.

“I’ll make sure she gets home all right,” Cutter said, enough challenge in his voice to let Krystal know he didn’t appreciate or need her interference.

Krystal stood there, clearly debating whether or not she should do just that. “It’s all right. Really,” Peg added and shot Krystal a reassuring smile.

“We’ll get your truck home, Peg—but you call me tomorrow, okay?” Krystal said after a long moment.

“Sure.”

“You see to it,” she heard Krystal say in a hushed voice, “that nothing bad happens to her.”

Cutter acknowledged the warning with a nod. “Tell Sam I’ll drop by to see him before I leave town again.”

“You do that,” Krystal said. She was still standing in the middle of the lot when Cutter walked Peg to his truck.
