“Sorry we’re late Melody, Talyn. We had to visit a mage to save my arm,” Reagan said, sitting down in the chair across from her heavily, and Talyn’s eyebrows rose slightly.

“What? But you’re a healer, aren’t you?” Talyn asked, a little shocked.

It was their third dinner since Talyn had started her classes, with them agreeing to meet up for dinner once each week, just to catch up and talk. Talyn found it comforting, though she was a little concerned that this had happened their first week delving into the dungeon.

“Not just his arm, he got savaged pretty badly,” Aslith corrected, glowering at Reagan. “We ran into some wolves in the Weeds, and he thought he had a safe spot near a tree. A wolf caught his leg and tripped him. His arm fell between a couple of trees, and when the wolf yanked… well.”

Talyn winced along with Reagan, who nodded soberly, a chagrined look on his face.

“We’re fortunate that Elda managed to set the wolf on fire. It didn’t like that,” Aslith said, giving the dark elf the evil eye.

“Whoosh,” Elda confirmed, looking very self-satisfied.

“I forgot the wolves in dungeons are a bit smarter than normal,” Reagan admitted. “Anyway, yes, I can heal, but I can’t deal with broken bones easily. Not yet. I can set them, but they’d heal only a little faster than normal, even if I was healing them constantly. A more powerful healer made them as good as new.”

“Which is good, since we’ve got a new job!” Gordon said, grinning broadly at Talyn and Melody. “Which is going to cause some issues, mind you.”

“Oh?” Melody asked, tilting her head slightly.

“Also… the Weeds?” Talyn asked, frowning. “Is that a region of the dungeon?”

“Oh, hah! Sorry, that’s terminology that we picked up from some other delvers,” Gordon said, shrugging and tugging on his beard again. Talyn swore that one day he’d tear it out. “They only refer to the areas with floors as the dungeon. The other areas are called Rocks, Water, and Weeds.”

“I’m pretty sure I can guess what each of them is like, just based on the names,” Talyn said, smiling slightly.

“They are rather descriptive, aren’t they?” Melody observed. “Still, what’s this about a job?”

“Right. Anyway, there’s a camp not far from the entrance into the Weeds. They hire new adventurers in the mid-teens to keep the area secure, and offered us a position with them. It gives them some more people, and gets us some experience and coin,” Gordon explained, shrugging. “They alternate a week on and a week off generally. We’d have to miss our dinner next week, which sucks, but we should be back for when you finish your month of classes.”

“Oh. Well, that… sucks, honestly,” Talyn said, a little disappointed, since she’d found herself looking forward to the dinners. “Not that I blame you, though. I hope it pays well, at least?”

“Not really. Only two silver a week for each of us, but that’s enough to pay for our lodging and a bit extra,” Aslith said, shaking her head.
