NORA

“Eat,” Cevon says, holding a fork with some rice on it in front of my mouth. I sigh, and shake my head. “Eat!” This time, his command sounds more like a growl from his lion than something I’m actually meant to understand.

He’s been like this the whole meal. Obsessing over my food, determined to make me eat more than I can stomach in an effort to… to what? I’ve got no idea. He sort of reminds me of the witch from Hansel and Gretel right now, fattening them up before she eats them.

Even if I didn’t have stomach cramps, I’d not be able to eat even half of what he’s got on this plate.

“Fine,” he mutters, a pout falling on his plump lips as he pushes my plate away. “Time for dessert.”

I groan, and he instantly freezes.

“What’s wrong?” he demands, and I can hear the panic in his words. He’s terrified.

“I’m so full, I can’t eat anymore,” I say softly, sitting up and looking at him. He’s tense as if he’s preparing himself for a fight. “Why don’t you sit and eat?”

His brows pull together as if that thought never came to him. It’s not the first time I’ve tried to get him to eat during this meal, but he’s been more obsessed with getting me to eat.

The attention is sweet, but it’s coming from a misguided place. He’s obsessing, pouring all of his energy into me, and it just doesn’t seem healthy.

Although, who am I to judge? It’s not like I’m healthy.

“What’s that look for?” he demands.

“I’m just marvelling at who is more fucked up,” I reply, and he glares at me. Okay.

“I’m not fucked up.”

“Mhm. Well, I wish we could all be as normal as you.”

“I’m normal,” he snarls. “You’re just fucking crazy.”

I snort. “Okay, and?”

That causes him to pause as he truly regards me. “What do you mean, and?”

“Well, so what if I am crazy,” I say, shrugging. “I’m more than willing to admit that I’m unhinged.”

“Just go fucking read,” he mutters. “I’m cleaning up.”

“I don’t mind—”

“Just go,” he says, sounding exhausted.

I nod, cringing a little, but he doesn’t notice. “For cleaning, you’ve just earned your first point.”

He doesn’t react, which upsets me a little.

But maybe Cevon isn’t as competitive as the others.

So, I make my way back upstairs, dragging my feet a little in case he’s going to shout me back, and go to the library, the one room in the house that actually feels like a home. I pick up the book I was reading before he demanded I join him for dinner and get cozy.

I finish the first book, and get up to grab the second one. I smile realising it’s already out on the table, and know Cevon did it because he paid attention to what series I was reading.

Even if he’ll never admit it.

There’s a small cough and I look up from the book. I’m on chapter 3, so it’s got to have been at least an hour.

“Can I join you?” Cevon asks, seeming a little hesitant.
