Chapter 8

"Dude, I didn't know that the other guys were gonna get a ringside seat to what we were doing. Honestly." Derek crossed his heart. "I just thought it was kinda cool and kinky and--it was fucking epic, right?"

Aaron, Kade, Derek, and Brandon shared a table at the mom-and-pop diner for breakfast. So far, Derek was the only one who had cleaned his plate.

"Keep your voice down, surfer boy." Brandon dragged his toast around his runny eggs. "Just because our brothers got a front row seat last night does not mean our teammates need a blow-by-blow this morning."

Aaron turned about four shades of red. He knew this for a fact because he felt the blood rushing to his face and he could also see the reaction in the mirror that was oddly placed across the diner from where he sat. Aaron had tried moving away from the mirror, but it seemed wherever he sat at the table, he caught his own image. After what happened last night, the mirror was a reminder of the mental and physical symmetry Aaron had shared with Brandon.

That connection was almost as intimate as what Aaron had shared with Kade, which made Aaron feel almost like he'd cheated on him. Worse, it was as Derek said--kinky and totally fucking hot--which made Aaron feel guilty. When he thought that reaction was juvenile if not downright silly, he then felt ashamed. And then Aaron was just confused because he felt all these feelings all at once. Sitting in a public place and talking about their intimacy seemed to only ice Aaron's embarrassment cake.

"Take a deep breath," Brandon said, leaning solicitously across the table toward Aaron.

"I'd rather just eat and talk about this later." Aaron kept his eyes on his plate as he spoke. "Please. If we don't stop, I won't be able to eat, and then I won't be able to play." As a second string free safety, it was unlikely Aaron would see game time today, which was fine with him. Right now he didn't think he'd do his team much good. Not when his brain was running a hundred different directions all at once.

"I think that's a good idea." Kade gave Aaron's thigh a squeeze under the table then he resumed eating.

"He asked," Derek said defensively, pointing at Kade.

"If you want to talk to him about it, why don't you go wordless," Brandon suggested.

Mercifully, the table went silent.

Aaron ate and avoided his reflection in the weirdly placed mirror. If Kade and Derek were hashing out whatever went down last night, more power to them. Aaron figured he'd talk to Kade about things later, hopefully after Aaron had a better handle on his own mixed-up feelings.

After everyone at the table finished breakfast, they split up the bill and then walked over to the school where the game was going to be held. The Grizzlies were allowed to use the girl's locker room since Lone Pine College was coed unlike all-male Twin Pines College.

Aaron kept his head down and his turtleneck shirt on as he pulled on the rest of his gear.
