Howled and Roared

“Five, four, three, two, one. Up!”

And with that, Sonja hauled herself out of bed, yanked on her yoga pants, and pulled on her too-tight high-end sports bra. Dragging herself into the living room, she began a punishing workout.

Fifteen minutes later, Sonja’s back howled and roared, but drenched in sweat and gasping, she ignored her pain and discomfort and reached for her cell to finally play Crystal’s last message.

“I’m not sure what happened this time around, Sonja. What I am sure of is that I don’t need this drama. I wish you well. I may wave if I see you on campus, but I won’t stop and chat. Please don’t call. If you do, I won’t pick up. And maybe, just maybe, read one of your own books or listen to one of your lectures. That Dr. Sonja Storey is pretty amazing. And…well…consider seeing someone, a professional. Compounding traumas by—shit! Doing it again. Never mind. You’re a smart woman. You’ll figure it out. Or you won’t. Okay, that’s it.”
