Chapter 16

Sid said goodbye to Neal and Sonny and carried her bag into the house. She gaped at the size of the foyer alone.

Nate and Mandy watched her in fascination. Sid spun around looking at every nook and cranny like a kid in a candy store.

Sid smiled and said, "I love knowing extremely rich people."

Nate shook his head in amusement and said, "It certainly has its perks. Come on, I'll show you where you're staying."

Mandy stepped in between them hoping to stall their confrontation and said, "Nate, don't be silly, you've been driving all day. I'll take him. You go upstairs and settle in."

Nate crossed his arms and sighed, "All right, we can do this here then; with a witness."

Sid gulped as she looked at the creepy siblings. Staying with them was definitely a bad idea.

Sid squeaked. "With a witness? I'm really not as tasty as I look."

Nate scoffed. "Tasty? We aren't vampires, Sid."

"You could have fooled me with the way you connivingly lured me up here," Sid yelled, looking for the best exit.

Nate sighed and said, "Sid, I know about your little secret you've got going with my sister."

"You told him?" Sid asked, a feeling of fear creeping up her entire body.

Mandy tried to stop her, "No Sid, wait."

Sid went on. "I can't believe you would betray me like that! Do you know how screwed I am now? I mean, god Mandy, why don't you just tell the whole school that we're-"

Mandy cut her off before she could reveal her secret. "Sid, he only knows that you know about me! Now would you shut up before you screw this up for yourself?"

Sid paused and then said, "Oh. Well I feel like an idiot."

Nate frowned at the two of them and asked, "Okay, what the hell is going on? Are you two dating or what?"

Sid made a face and said, "Ugh gross! I've already kissed enough girls for this lifetime. No, Mandy just knows something about me that she absolutely cannot tell you unless she wants to die."

Mandy laughed and said, "Well that's a bit harsh; it wouldn't be so bad if he knew."

Sid glared at her and said through clenched teeth, "Not so bad? Mandy, if you tell him, I will hurt you."

Nate stepped in between the two and said, "Sid, take it easy. It can't be as bad as Arianna's secret."

Sid rolled her eyes and said, "You have no idea, now where's this guesthouse?"

Nate said, "I'll take him. I don't want you guys spending any quality alone time together. I don't think I have to explain the story of what happened with Neal."

Nate grabbed Sid's bag off the ground and helped her to the guesthouse.

Once they got to the guesthouse, Sid took another moment to drink in her surroundings.

She said, "God, I wish I was poor so I could say this place is bigger than my house."

Nate dropped her bags on the couch and asked, "So how well off are you, anyways?"

Sid shrugged and said, "My dad's an environmental lawyer and my mom writes popular self-help books.
