CRACKS IN THE WALLS
The magnificence of our hearts is more expansive than we can imagine. We have a capacity to love passionately, give in a million ways, celebrate in various forms, and express the internal elevations of the heart thatâs greater than any other species on earth. Our souls are woven to connect and naturally rest in a place of openness. And with a simple touch, glance, or presence, we can experience and share the magical vibration of love across cultures. Because we are emotional beings with sensitive hearts, itâs okay to go slow and easy when we start to dismantle the walls. And the way we do that is by making tiny cracks to weaken the structure. Here are a few examples:
⢠Be open to the possibility that your heartâs walls can crumble. When my student realized in the comfort of her own home that something had to change, she figured online meditation was a good place to start. She could have easily picked up the phone and called a family member, but it would have been too much for her emotionally. Instead, she opened to no longer feeling sad. She created a crack by taking steps to feel more secure within herself, and seeing the possibility of reconnecting with her family when she was ready.
⢠Find and learn ways of coping with loss. Thereâs no way to avoid all the circumstances that can cause a heavy or broken heart, and the statement âjust get over itâ never works. It is, however, really important to gain tools and personalized techniques of coping with the experience. I always recommend more than one tool, and when someone has built a fortress, I suggest therapy or group counseling. Keep in mind that having an assortment of tools doesnât mean you avoid or suppress situations when they happen. The key is feeling and coping through the wave of emotions with supportive tools.
⢠Your heart is yours, so release emotional comparisons. Too often we place judgment around the speed at which others make it through the dark, or worse, we see that our ex is back in the dating game only a week after they broke up with us. Comparing your heart to anotherâs will only block the process and create a stronger structure. This crack comes back to compassion and self-love. Donât be too hard on yourself, and believe in the path you are on. Mend, trust your intuition, and be okay with moving through your loss in your own time.
