After finishing the hike, they headed towards the car park, Amara feeling so very close to Sullivan in that moment that she didn’t want their time together to end. A perky little blonde crossed the car park and caught Sullivan’s eye. A smile lit up his face as he held a hand up in a casual wave and Amara couldn’t help but feel a pang of self-doubt hit her. Was this the sort of woman he usually dated?

Amara couldn’t help but give her a once-over, noting her incredibly fit appearance. There was no doubt in her mind that he knew her from the gym. She had the sort of body Amara used to dream of having before she realised that her genetics would never allow it. Muscular, toned, fit yet still soft and feminine. She was hot.

“I didn’t know you were coming for a hike today. You could have kept me company,” the other woman said.

“It was a last-minute thing. And I managed to convince Amara to come with me, so it worked out.” He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her into his body.

The woman regarded her with a warm smile and raised her brows. “So, you’re the famous Amara,” she said in a sweet voice. “I’m Ellie.”

“It’s nice to meet you.” Amara shook the hand she held out.

“Ellie’s one of the trainers at my gym.”

Well, that certainly made sense, given her appearance.

“We picked a nice day for it. Tomorrow is going to be forty degrees again,” Ellie commented in disgust.

Amara couldn’t help but groan. She’d always hated the heat of summer. The days where it was over forty degrees, she didn’t leave the comfort of the house if she could help it. Unless it was to jump in a pool, of course.

“I take it you’re not a fan of the heat either,” Ellie said with a laugh.

“I may have been born here, but I am not built for Perth summers.”

“I’m from Melbourne, so imagine how I feel.”

She merely laughed in response, along with Sullivan.

“She always complains,” he teased. “I keep telling her to move back to Melbourne, but she won’t. I think she just likes to whinge.”

The other woman hit him lightly. “Oh please. You would be lost without me and you know it.”

Sullivan threw his head back and let out a loud, absolutely heart-warming laugh. It lit up Amara’s world as she looked up at him.

“And on that note, I’ll leave you guys to it. It was great to meet you, Amara.”

“Yeah, you too, Ellie.”

Ellie wandered past them and Sullivan squeezed his arm possessively around Amara’s shoulders.

“She seems like a fun person.”

“She is. She basically runs the gym for me and does a great job, despite her age.”

She did look younger than Amara, perhaps in her mid-twenties. Yet Amara knew better than most that maturity and age didn’t go hand in hand.

Sullivan led her down the gravel path towards their cars, keeping his hold on her. All day, he’d been touching her in some way.
