Chapter 8
We both woke up feeling like the Macyâs Day Parade had marched into our skulls. My mouth was dry. My body was still sheathed in a booze-fueled numbness. I didnât get sick, but I kind of wished that I had.
Katie got sick. Then she crashed again.
Now the difference between being hung over when youâre just a couple versus a parent is that your kid doesnât really have enough sympathy to let you sleep. Mya came charging in at some ungodly hourâthat turned out to be just before 9. I was pretty sure that Iâd had less to drink than Katie, so I dragged myself out of bed to make our daughter oatmeal and bacon.
Things got better with coffeeâdoesnât everything? My body still ached and I still couldnât clear all the cobwebs, but I started to remember what weâd done last night. Not that that made any more sense. Had we really done that? Had we had sex in front of another couple as they had sex? Seemed plausible in a dream-like way until I considered who my wife was. She abhorred strip clubs, pornography, and the idea of acting slutty. Had she really unzipped me? Had she whispered, I need you?
Katie came downstairs a couple hours later, looking better than she had a right to. Mya was watching Dora the Explorer and I was slumped over my third cup of coffee.
âHey,â she said. âI had the craziest dream...â Katie said. She ran her hand through her hair and shook her head.
âMe, too.â We shared a laugh. âDid that really happen?â
Katie plopped down at the kitchen table and took a sip of my coffee. âI think so? I remember having dinner. Then dancing. Then...â
âYeah,â I said. I reached out and covered her hand, squeezing her fingers. âThen the limo.â
Katie looked down at our entwined hands. Her eyes cut back up at me through her long lashes. âThat was hot.â
âYeah.â And Katie telling me she felt that way was even hotter. âI couldnât believe it when you unzipped me.â
âI did?â She looked up and away, as if trying to remember. Her faint smile told me that she did. âGod, Iâm sorry.â
âWhy? Donât apologize. It was incredible.â
âI was so horny. I couldnât stop myself. It was like I was possessed or something.â
âYou should get possessed more often,â I said. âSo weâre good?â
âI wouldnât use that word, but yeah, Iâm okay with it.â Katie fingered my coffee mug as she organized her thoughts. âI still canât believe...well, any of it. But I donât regret it.â
âChloe and Greg are pretty wild, huh?â
She said, âNow thereâs an understatement.â
âDo we like them?â
âYes, I think we do. Thereâs something dangerous about them, butââ
I finished for her. âBut maybe thatâs whatâs so exciting about them.â Katie nodded. âDo you think Gregâs attractive?â
Her admission was only a little hesitant. âYeah, but if this is going where I think it is...â She took a deep breath. âI donât think Iâm ready to try, you know, swinging or anything.â Her face was as bright as her hair.
