“Why do you need the radio?” my mom asked.

“To play music while studying. It gets awfully boring with him in silence and he doesn’t have a radio, so he allowed me to bring mine.” I replied.

My mom sighed and went into the kitchen to prepare breakfast for my dad. I felt bad for lying but knew it was the best thing to do. I flew out the door and headed toward Crystal Mountain for my second day of training. It was now June 5. Ten days to perfect my skill.

I landed at Asteroid’s cave and set down the radio. The cave was dark, with no sign of any dragons in there.

“Asteroid! Asteroid you in here? It’s time for our daily session!” I called into the darkness. My voice echoed in the silence, hinting that the cave was indeed empty.

I blew fire on a stick, and walked inside. Asteroid might still be sleeping and I would have to wake him up. However, I found it to be the exact opposite. I walked to the very end of the cave, and searched the whole perimeter and found no one. Confused, I walked out of the cave and looked around outside. That’s when I noticed a note pasted on the wall.

It read, “Call out the name Luna and follow her to the cave. She knows the way. You both better arrive at the same time.”

That was suspicious. Who was Luna? Guess I was about to find out.

“All right. Let’s try this out. Luna?” I called, quietly. Nothing happened.

I cleared my throat. “Luna!” I called, more loudly. Nothing happened.

I took a deep breath and yelled, “LUNA!”

Out of nowhere, a peregrine falcon hurtled from the sky and landed in front of my feet. I shrieked and jumped backwards. “Wow, that was not what I was expecting.” Luna tilted her head at me confused. “Well, you know, I was expecting a dragon. Not a falcon.”

Luna screeched at me, lifted her wings, and flew out of the cave. She looked at me, beckoning me to follow then sped downwards. Quickly I grabbed the radio, and followed Luna. When I got outside, I almost lost track of her. Then I heard a screech, and found her again. That happened a lot. It was hard to keep up with Luna, since she was really fast. Now I understood the meaning of Asteroid’s note, and knew I wasn’t going to be able to reach the cave with her.

By the time I got to the cave, Luna was happily being fed by Asteroid outside the cave entrance. She saw me and screeched, ruffling her wings.

“Yeah, yeah, no need to tease me.” I glanced up at Asteroid, an apology written in my eyes.

“Well, I see Luna got the best of you. I find her to be a good race partner. From now on, you will repeat what you did today to increase your speed and stamina. Is that clear?” I nodded. “Good. Luna, you did well today. You are free to go.” Luna nuzzled Asteroid once more then flew off into the sky.
