BREAKDOWN

OF A

SKATEBOARD

WHEELS

The wheels were one of the first major

changes made to skateboards. If a wheel

breaks or falls off during a trick, a skater

could be seriously injured. The sturdy,

polyurethane wheels on most skateboards

let skaters ride smoothly on different

surfaces. Vert skaters prefer bigger

wheels than street skateboarders.

TRUCKS

The trucks are the metal pieces

connecting the board to the wheels.

A skateboard’s trucks allow riders

to lean on the deck’s sides. This

makes the deck tilt. The tilt allows

the skateboard to make smooth turns.

Trucks come in different sizes based on

the size of the deck. A wider truck makes

it easier to turn. A narrower truck makes it

easier for the skater to do flip tricks.
