Shaking with a mixture of shock, terror and disappointment, Skandar stomped back to his treehouse, swinging across dangerous gaps between the platforms and jumping down ladders four rungs at a time. He couldn’t believe Joby – the only spirit wielder he’d ever met – was refusing to help him or say more about the Weaver. In the safety of his room he tore open the package from Kenna he’d collected from the post tree that morning, hoping it would calm him down. A bag of Jelly Babies thumped on to the rug beneath his black boots as he read.

I can’t believe you’re doing elemental magic already. I guess your favourite class must be water, because you’re allied to it, right? So proud of you, little bro. I actually think you’re really brave riding a real unicorn. Okay, so I have a list of questions – prepare yourself. I want to know EVERYTHING! So does everyone at school. I’m practically famous now because of you – they all want to know about Scoundrel, your training, how well you’re doing. They want me to talk about you in assembly. Don’t worry, I’ll describe the look on Owen’s face in GREAT detail in my next letter!
