No one’s come to interview me. No one’s knocked on my door or sought me out at work. As the hours progress and days pass, I can breathe. The more I calm down, the more I can think.

The moments leading up to my panicking and killing the Russian woman had been a blur, but I can see her clearly now. The look of shock as she saw me standing there in front of her! I know her husband was no saint. I choose my victims carefully, and he had done more than most. I may not have expected her home at the time, but the flurry of messages following her death only make me feel stronger. It was the right thing to do.

My attention turns to the clinic that was so desperate to contact her that they left twenty messages in a day. They either haven’t read the papers or haven’t realised that the ‘woman found dead in a Birmingham flat’ is their surgeon and the wife of the organ trafficker. Apparently, they have an impatient new buyer, saying Marlov needs to deliver the package soon or it’ll be too late. It’s certainly too late for Marlov and his wife. I’ve even started to feel sorry for her as I’ve read the cruel words that were sent in the days leading up to her death. The vile threats of violence.

Then there’s DI Jack Kent. That bit of all of this is coming along nicely. I guessed she’d be the lead officer for the investigation and so she is. I’m sure she’ll investigate the whole family and understand why I targeted them. Maybe even applaud me a little. A climber with a conscience, that’s DI Jack Kent. I’ve read the newspaper interviews where she blames the rich for turning Everest into a rubbish dump. Maybe I should help her out a little with her case and explain why I did it? I reach for a pen and paper. A single comment on social media just wasn’t direct enough. I’ll write her a letter and include a link to the messages from The Grinweld Clinic. She can thank me later.
