9.A non-causal filter uses future input samples. It can be changed into a causal filter by adding on a delay to it.

The function of a filter can be represented by a block diagram which can be used to derive the signal processing algorithm to implement the filter with hardware components. A difference equation with a collection of zeros and poles or a step response or impulse response can also be used to describe a filter. Hence the output of the linear digital filter to any given input can be calculated by convolving the input signal with the impulse response. By convolving the input signal with the impulse response, one can obtain the output of a linear digital filter.
