From the moment he heard Cody’s voice through the speaker of the intercom, Derek knew he was fucked. Even the way his sweet but still sexy voice said his name caused the blood to leave his brain and head straight to his dick, leaving him light headed.

When he first spotted him on the boat, the breeze ruffling Cody’s raven hair, and that one-thousand-watt smile beaming, he almost melted through the boards of the dock. He had slept with many guys, but for some reason, this guy made all the rest look like chicken feed. With each step he took drawing closer to Cody, he had to coach himself to breathe. Deep, sustaining breathes, he told himself.

He thought he had everything under control. Finally. But then he saw the bulge, the growing bulge straining against the thin nylon material of his trunks. At that moment, he almost tossed his stupid idea of not sleeping with Cody overboard, where it belonged. Right now, he thought, he should be down below discovering every curve, every muscle, and every hollow off his perfect body.

To not make a move and act on impulse was the single hardest thing he’d ever had to do in his life. And when his cock reacted to his relentless sexual thoughts, he wanted to bash his own head in on the side of the boat, anything to stop his almost painful hard-on being discovered by Cody. If he had noticed, it would’ve been all over, and his obsessive behavior would take over. It already had, and Derek was beginning to feel powerless against it. He knew the power that Cody’s endless blue eyes held. And his muscular body taunted and teased his every cell. How could he not desire such intoxicating beauty and wealth? It was virtually impossible.

But then he remembered the havoc he had caused at the Mitchell’s farm by almost ruining the Mitchell wedding and burning down a barn crowded with unsuspecting revelers. If it hadn’t been for a stroke of good luck and some quick thinking, he’d probably be toast, literally, and responsible for quite a few deaths. Thankfully, that didn’t happen, but it could have. Just remembering that day and thinking about Hunter Cross caused his skin to grow cold and the hair on the back of his neck to stand with what could’ve been.

He wasn’t completely safe until he said his “thank you” and “good night” to Cody and stepped into the safety of the cab of his truck, the only thing that was truly his. He had to get his thoughts under control and remember why he’d left Virginia and his family in the first place, which was to take control of his life. Every part of it. And now, that also included his relationship with Cody.
