“Where are we going?” Zachary asked as Conrad parked the Mercedes in a parking lot behind a four-story building.

“This is Byte’s parking lot. It’s reserved for Lucas’ coven members and a few others,” the older wolf replied as he turned off the engine. He glanced at the clock on the dash and frowned. He hadn’t expected the movie to run so late. It was 8:48pm and Byte was already open. There had already been a line of people waiting to get in when he drove by the front entrance.

“Byte?” He echoed. “The vampire bar? Why are we here?”

“This is where your sister and I are staying,” When Zach’s brow furrowed in question, he elaborated. “The fourth floor is full of guest rooms for people who aren’t vampires.”

“Why do you stay here though? And why together?” He pressed. “Are you dating my sister?” The word sister still felt foreign to him, but he liked saying it.

Conrad couldn’t help the loud laugh that came out. “No! I don’t see Kee that way. I told you she’s my alpha. We find comfort in each other’s presence, that’s all. Besides, she’s dating someone else.”

“Who? Warren’s beta said they broke up. Is that true?” Zachary was turned in his seat now, facing Conrad with a curious expression.

“Yeah, it’s true,” he answered honestly. “And maybe dating is the wrong word to use. She’s involved with Lucas.”

“Oh,” he commented quietly. She wasn’t a wolf, nor was she dating one. Was she a vampire then? No, there was no way. She was out in the sun and didn’t smell like one. Still, he had so many questions. He opened his mouth to ask them, but Conrad cut him off with a shake of his head.

“You need to ask her whatever questions you have left, Zach.” Zach’s face fell in disappointment, and he tried to give him an encouraging smile. “I’m sure she’ll have questions for you, too.”

He nodded. “Yeah, you’re right.”

Conrad turned his attention back to Byte and saw the guard at the back door. He recognized the bouncer and sighed. Brent had tried to stop Kee from going to Lucas once, and she had broken his nose for it. He glanced at Mia in the rearview mirror and gave an affectionate smile when he saw her passed out. He looked at Zach again. “Can you stay here and watch her while I go in the club?”

“What? No! I want to meet my sister!” He protested.

“I know,” he said firmly. “But you’re underage and I don’t want to take Mia into a bar crawling with vampires. We would have to cross the bar floor to get to the rooms upstairs and I don’t want to risk it.”

“I’m not being left behind, Conrad,” Zach growled. “I’ll help protect Mia, but I won’t stay here.”

“You’re just like your sister,” he grumbled before giving a sigh of defeat and unclicking his seatbelt. “Fine, we’ll go together, but stay close to me.”

The younger wolf perked up and quickly got out of the car.
