Margaret and George Lush both praised Katie’s teaching method and claimed that this opinion was shared amongst their classmates. Her employment with Ormond College ceased, however, when Katie was obliged to resign due to her worsening condition. She returned to live with her mother and sister in Harrington Avenue, Kew, where George Lush continued to visit every Sunday afternoon after graduating.59 According to Lush, during the last two years of Katie’s life she ‘was practically nursed by Mary; they had, I believe, always been very close’.60 A year after her brother Robert’s death, Katie Lush died on 10 November 1935, aged forty-eight.61
