Dear Dax

Above all, I want you to know that I still love you. I will always love you, no matter what. I heard about what happened in Cumbria from Gina and although she’s a bit of an exaggerator (well, we both know it!) I don’t think even she could make up something so strange.

I have to admit it’s shaken me up. I always knew you were different—special—but I didn’t know how it would come out. Your teacher, Mr Hind, also got in touch. He seems to think very highly of you. He wants me to come and see you and, of course, I should have come to see you long ago. It’s only because things have been very tricky on the rig this last year, what with job lay-offs and so on, that I haven’t been able to make the time.

Dax, there’s also other stuff you should know—stuff from way back—and I promise I will tell it to you as soon as I see you. I’m going to talk to my boss and see if he will give me some compassionate leave and I will get down to you as soon as I can.

In the meantime, never forget that you are special for a reason.

Look after yourself and don’t ever be ashamed of what you are.
