Omega Protocol.

The words nearly burned a hole into Major Richard Nelson’s mind, giving fuel to the fire of his broken body. His eyes burst open as he gasped for air as the tattered Thorne officer looked about. All around him, fellow comrades had laid down their arms. Many were tending to the wounded with Ro’Nihn or letting the enemy divert them into groups for a proper surrender. The very sight of it hurt more than the ravages wrought on Nelson by his enemy.

Omega Protocol.

Major Nelson did not know how he still lived. The large Ro’Nihn who had bested him had been thorough in his assault. Nelson knew that his spine was broken, a thought he confirmed with his inability to move his legs. He knew there were broken ribs and a punctured lung among other internal injuries. But these things had to be overlooked. Nelson could be rebuilt at home. He could be made better again. But that was not his mission or desire.

Omega Protocol now.

The words gave Major Nelson the drive he would need. Using his arms and elbows, the battered man dragged himself through the darkness and away from his respected, hated enemy. A comrade tried to help him, but one look cast by Nelson stayed the soldier’s hand. This was Major Nelson’s mission and moment. The burden and honor of Omega Protocol belonged solely to him.

The last few minutes of Major Nelson’s life were his most crucial, for it was he who had been charged by General Cresul. A career military man and product of the war machine, Major Nelson had neither the family nor moral restrictions to limit his ability to see Omega Protocol through. If the mission furthered his country, he would embrace it gladly. Taking a slew of his enemy with him was merely icing on the cake.

In his final moments of mortality, Major Richard Nelson was going to play a god.

With his enemy distracted, Major Nelson used the darkness as his ally, working his way to the supply caravans. He was grateful they were still intact, for the leader of Vallance had wrought a vicious assault upon his ranks. Grudgingly, Nelson admitted to himself that Winston and Miller had been right: the nation of Vallance was not one to be trifled with. Feeling more of his life bleed out in a red trail behind him, the dying major dragged himself the last few feet to his goal.

“You are wounded, soldier. I could feel your pain from across the canyon. Please let me tend to you,” said a soothing voice.

Major Nelson froze at the voice. Turning his head warily, he saw a Ro’Nihn standing above him. The warrior bore no malice in his stance, yet instantly Nelson regarded him as a threat to his mission. Taking panic and anger from his features, Nelson embraced the pain that was wracking his body as he covered his face and feigned anguish at the sight of his enemy. Such an endeavor was easily accomplished in the major’s current state.
