Desperately Seeking Sebastian

I take a crouched position about 20 yards away and assess the situation. From what I can see there are about 15 wolves milling about, but they won’t stay still long enough for me to get a good count. From this angle, the wolves almost look like any other dog and not like the killers that I’ve had to fight off. What I don’t see is the giant gray wolf anywhere. I’m confident that he’s somewhere around. Anderson had said it was a trap to begin with so he must be waiting for me to come for Sebastian.

I scan the surroundings hoping to locate Sebastian. Along with the gray wolf, I don’t see Sebastian either. Is he even here? And if not here, where? Is this the first line of defense that I have to break through in order to even have the chance at finding Sebastian. It seems a little crazy to go on the attack without seeing the end goal of getting Sebastian back.

Then I have a horrible thought. What if they’ve already eaten him. I’m pretty sure this is a ridiculous thought because there would have to be something left over like clothes and a bloody mess of bones. Wow, that’s morbid.

So what do I do? No Sebastian, but this is where Sommarmorgon guided me to, and Anderson said to follow her. I know that it’s a bit crazy to take directions from a raven, but what else am I to do? I need to find Sebastian, and this seems like the obvious spot or at least the obvious spot to start. The challenge is how to start. Considering it’s one against 15, and that’s only the ones I can see, my options are a bit limited. I can try sneaking up and taking out the first few, but at some point the others will be alerted. Without a partner, I don’t have the opportunity to distract and then flank. My third option, as I see it, is to go in axes a-blazin’ and just start hacking my way through the pack.

That’s when it hits me. If I can get Sommarmorgon to fly through the pack, she might be able to create a distraction. But how do I find her now? Is she perched somewhere up in the trees just watching? Or has she flown away to real safety. I make a clicking noise with my tongue in the back of my mouth at an attempt to replicate the sound I’ve heard her make.

I wait a minute, but she doesn’t come. I make the noise again followed by a little whistle which probably ranks up there as one of the worst bird calls ever. Sommarmorgon never really made the whistling sound, but this is my weak attempt to make it feel more like a bird call. Still she doesn’t swoop down. I’m not sure what I’m thinking, because even if she does come, how will I tell her what I need her to do.

I’m about to make the clicking noise again when I hear the brush move in front of me.
