The common mistake that is made is that the desktop systems have not been verified with the Company Portal application and are not compliant before the MDM services are deployed to the users. What causes this is the conditional access policies. For the conditional access policies to work correctly, the Windows and Mac desktop clients must be compliant. If you do not have desktop systems that are compliant, then the mobile policy may work on the mobile devices, but the desktop will not work. When a noncompliant policy is deployed, the user will be unable to access corporate resources on Office 365 and Azure services from the desktop and web applications on their workstations. Deployment of the Company Portal is mandatory. If you are not using Group Policy to push changes, you can use the Company Portal (the downloaded application from the Microsoft store) to identify problems and make changes and to bring the desktop/laptop systems into compliance.

Microsoft has supplied an end-user Company Portal for the deployment of the Intune MDM/MAM solutions to user desktops, available from the Apple store and Google Play store. Accessing the Company Portal is easy; go to the Microsoft store (or Apple or Google Play) and search for Company Portal . You download the application to the system and install the software. If you are using a Windows 10 system or Mac, make sure you pin this to your Start menu or Finder (see Figure 5-109).
