Conversos returning to Judaism were well received by local communities even though some acrimony did occasionally exist.[531] Rabbi Simeon ben Shlomo Duran worked to ensure that returning converts were warmly embraced since he held they had already entered the covenant at Sinai by virtue of their lineage. Rabbi Duran’s views were supported by Rabbi Saadia ben Maimon ibn Danan (d. 1493). Rabbi Danan’s overriding concern was that Conversos return to Judaism. Rabbi Danan rejected any approach which likened Conversos to non-Jews.
