Her heart had opened an infinitesimal amount, and for that fleeting instant, Emily had been more than willing to forget everything Henry had done to her. She had wanted to forget it. She had wanted to put the pain behind them and move forward… together.

I missed him. There. She’d admitted it. It had been heaven being in his arms again. It had felt like coming home.

How?

What exactly did he want from her? He had asked for a second chance. Did he still think there was a chance she might marry him after this? Was he playing games? Did he simply miss kissing her? Emily didn’t know if she was ready to ask those questions of him, or if she was even prepared to hear his answers.

The only coherent thought that continued to slide through her mind was that if she took him back, she was going to wind up hurt again. So, I won’t do it.
