When he was gone, Maggie snatched her towel off the chaise with a curse and went into the house. In eleven years of working in offices she’d never seen anybody who looked as good in a suit as Nick did. Nothing could add to his dark, brooding handsomeness, but the suit reminded her—and the world—that he was somebody. Somebody important. Somebody to be respected.

And she’d just behaved like a fool. Nerves had had her sitting on the chaise lounge and offering him the seat beside her. If she’d stopped there, she could have almost felt okay about it. But, no. She’d stretched out. Nervously closed her eyes. Then stood up too quickly when he’d tried to leave.

But that was because he hadn’t been able to take his eyes off her.

That was the part that made her so nervous she’d acted like a damned fool. The part that made her want to shiver. No one but Nick had ever looked at her that way. As if he was starving and she was a feast. She’d forgotten how much she liked the shimmery, shiny look in his eyes when he couldn’t stop his gaze from touching every inch of her.

She’d also forgotten the heady surge of power that coursed through her when his eyes simmered. She’d never felt that with any other man, so she’d always believed she’d imagined it. Or maybe that the burst of feminine power that had raced through her was the reaction of a woman being noticed by a man for the first time. Yet, here she was, fifteen years later, feeling it all again. The rush of adrenaline. The shivers of anticipation. The longing for his touch.

She groaned.

She had better get over this soon because from the way Nick raced away, he wasn’t having wonderful, positive feelings about being attracted to her. If he was attracted at all. For all she knew he had only been looking at her to check out the differences in her from when they’d been married.

Or maybe the difference two short weeks had made in her tummy. Her stomach was more pronounced now. Though it wasn’t the size of a basketball yet, it had grown. The changes might not be noticeable when he was around every day, but seeing her out of the office he might be noticing different things.

That had to be it.

Even if he had been attracted to her, he wouldn’t follow through. Time had passed. And he was rich now. Rumor in town was that he dated constantly. While she’d married the first guy she met at university, he’d become a real playboy.

She glanced down at her tummy. What would a playboy want with her?

Nothing.
