Chapter thirty

Dom

Fuck. Fuuuuuck!

I pat my shorts pockets and, luckily, I have my phone. I grab it and dial Zeke. He’s going to be infuriated.

“Dom? Everything okay?” He answers on the first ring.

“Shit, bro. I’ve fucked up big time. I came in to make sure she was okay and she tricked me and ended up locking me in here! She’s fucking devious. I’ll give her that!”

“Make sure she was okay? She was locked in an empty room. Why the fuck would you go in and speak to her by yourself, man? We talked about this, about not going in there. You trying to fuck her or something? She’s here as our captive, not our houseguest.”

“She was having a nightmare, and it seemed to just keep going. I was worried she was going to hurt herself. I guess she fashioned a makeshift knife and impaled me with it.”

He sighs. “We’ll be right there. Don’t go anywhere.”

A minute or two later, the door clicks open and I follow Zeke to meet Skyler and Rake in the living room.

“You alright?” Zeke eyes my chest.

“Yeah. The bleeding has stopped. She got me here and here, too,” I say, gesturing to my torso and my face, “but those ones are more superficial.”

Rake lets out a low whistle. “That sneaky little Devo.”

“Well, glad you’re fine but you’ve really fucked us now, bro,” says Zeke, his anger palpable in his tone. “We’d better find her and fast, before Tane’s goons get word that she’s missing. And we’ll sort you out later, you dumb fuck! I’m not surprised that she escaped. You’re so fucking thirsty, drooling all over her like a love-struck schoolboy.”

“She’s pretty amazing, though, isn’t she? Hot, too.” A little smile forms on my face as I think about how clever she was with her escape.

“She’s a fucking smoke show, but at the end of the day she’s just a woman,” Skyler narrows his eyes at me. “I enjoy looking at her, but it doesn’t mean I think of her differently than any of the others that have made their way anywhere near us.”

“You’re in denial. You like her much more than any other woman, Sky. I can tell. Don’t try that macho shit, I can see right through you.” I glare at Skyler. “She is absolutely not like any other woman we’ve ever known. She’s unique. She’s our Dev.”

“She stabbed you, man.” Rake squints at me like he’s trying to diagnose me with some form of crazy, pointing at my chest and my torso.

“Yeah, it was hot as fuck.” I can’t help but grin. I feel tingly just thinking about it. “I’m going to have a scar,” I point at the cut on my chest. “Might ask her to go harder next time.” I flick my lighter and stare at the flame, entranced, picturing her dancing in the flickering light. “Might get her to brand me.”

“Damn you’re a sicko, Dom.” Skyler snorts.

“Nah, I kind of get where he’s coming from.” Rake has a dreamy look in his eyes.
