CHAPTER 8
Caleb blinked his eyes open and found that he was no longer tied down. He was lying on the pillow and had been moved close to the fire. His limbs felt weak, but his body felt good at the same time. Motion by his feet caught his attention and he leaned up on his elbow as he looked to find Ridge piling food onto two plates. He smiled as his felt the love in his heart for this man. They hadnât even known each other for even forty-eight hours, yet he already loved this man, and knew he would forever want to be right by his side in all things.
Ridge turned and smiled at him and Calebâs heart stopped. He could see the love his mate felt for him in those green orbs and Caleb was speechless. He didnât know how exactly, but they had fallen in love so quickly.
âWelcome back, beautiful. Hungry?â Ridge asked and held up the plates for him to see.
He nodded as he answered and sat up. âStarving. Thank you.â As he drew closer to Ridge, Caleb needed to feel a connection to his mate, so he leaned in and kissed Ridge softly, then pulled back. Ridge gifted him with one of those heart-stopping smiles, then leaned in and kissed him tenderly, like a lover who had fallen in love, and Calebâs heart melted even more.
Ridge pulled back and smiled as he handed him a plate. Caleb accepted it and sat facing the fire as Ridge moved closer, so their bodies touched from hip to knee. âI now feel like I need to constantly be touching you. My fathers told me it would happen and I had seen them do it all the time, but I never expected this need to be so consuming,â Ridge confessed.
Caleb smiled. âMe too. I feel like I always need to be connected to you somehow.â
Ridge leaned over and nipped his mating mark as he hummed, and the sensation made Caleb shiver. âAlways being connected to you would be a dream come true, love. The sun is about to come up. Letâs eat, then get ready to head home. I canât wait to show you your new pack,â Ridge said, with the excitement of a young pup and Caleb chuckled. He loved seeing Ridge so carefree.
Once they were halfway through their meal, Caleb asked Ridge, âYou said welcome back. What did you mean?â
Ridge placed his hand on Calebâs thigh and gently caressed his flesh. âYou fell into subspace and it was beautiful. Your face was this mask of pure ecstasy and joy, but so relaxed. You looked stunning, mate.â
âOh. Iâve heard of subspace before, but have never experience it. I loved how I felt like I was floating.â
âGood, then we will make sure to let you experience it again and again,â Ridge replied, then bit into the second half of his salmon.
âCan I ask you something?â Caleb asked.
âOf course, mate, you can ask me anything.â
âYou said your fathers told you. Does that mean they were true mates?â Caleb asked, then took a bite of his food.
