RYDER

I grip the wheel tighter as I trail Logan's car. I let them go, but I'm not going to lose the car. I'm going to follow them wherever the fuck they're going, kill him, and take my girl the fuck home.

My phone rings, and I press a button to answer it, then Bash's voice fills the car.

"Where we headed?"

"Call Bel, ask him to send you my location," I say, pressing my foot down harder on the accelerator. We merge into the steady stream of early morning traffic, but I stay right behind him. "We're on the freeway heading North."

"That's toward his house," Bash says. "Reid! What the fuck—I gotta call you back. This fuckin' kid is gonna be the death of me." He hangs up, and the silence pierces me.

Logan is driving recklessly, weaving in and out of traffic. He's moving at a ridiculous speed, one I'm even uncomfortable driving at. Still, the only way I'd slow down is if someone fucking killed me.

My phone rings again, and I let out a frustrated shout before answering.

"Yeah?" I bark.

"You're fuckin' dead!" Pop shouts. "You let her get taken, Ry. I'm gonna kill you, whether anything happens to her or not. You're a dead fucking man!"

My heart sinks, and I forget how to breathe. I've seen Pop mad. I've seen him kill men before. I've seen him do a lot of fucked up shit. But this voice is one I've never heard before.

"I deserve it," I say.

"I fuckin' know that!" he shouts. "It's the least you fuckin' deserve!" I keep my eyes on Logan's little sports car. He weaves through cars, and when one merges in front of me, nearly clipping my front bumper, I slam on my breaks and veer onto the shoulder.

I ignore people honking as I drive on the shoulder, trying to get to them again.

"Look, I'm in the middle of chasing them right now. You can kill me all you want when we get her back," I say, annoyed.

"I fuckin' trusted you," he says.

His words are slurred, and I know he's drunk. He'd be pissed if he was sober, but he wouldn't be like this. He'd be gearing up. He wouldn't be calling me. Bash's voice is muffled on the other end, and Pop grumbles something before there's a shuffling.

"You good?" Bash barks.

"Fine," I grit out. My eyes are glued to the car, but it's getting away. Fuck. I can't lose it. I can't lose her. "Bash—" My voice is tight, and my entire body is trembling. "She's—I can't lose her."

"She's not going anywhere, you hear me?" he says fiercely.

"I'm losing them," I croak as I watch the car weave in front of a truck, and I lose sight of it. "I'm—she's—"

"She's not lost," he says. "We'll get her back. You'll get her back. Come to the clubhouse. We'll ride out from here."

I drive for another fifteen minutes, weaving in and out of lanes, ignoring people honking at me. But I can't see the car anymore.

She's fucking gone.

I've fucking lost her.
