Chapter 10

Kyndall

I no longer recognized the person who stared back at me in the mirror. I used to think I was this strong woman who was invincible and wouldn’t put up with anyone’s bullshit. That was before my past caught up with me.

Three weeks after my disastrous encounter with Melissa and she turned my life upside down. There were bags around my red-rimmed eyes that could hold groceries. I didn’t have the energy to work out, so my body was five pounds heavier. The most shameful part was the smell—I hadn’t the energy to shower in days.

Today was the first time I planned to venture out of the house in about three weeks. With much effort, I completed my morning routine and got dressed in whatever clothing I had that was clean. Not ready to face the subway, I dragged myself to my car and my therapist’s appointment. I found a parking spot in front of the building. I kept my eyes open wide, anxiously searching for any signs of danger the entire way to the office.

I spent the next hour with Dr. Smith as she reviewed how I felt and my current status. I mustered up a smile and tried to sound upbeat as I reassured her. So fucking wonderful. My life would make a great movie right now. I shook my head and ran out of the office and back to the comfort of my home. I hated myself for lying to Dr. Smith and to myself.

Alex called that night to check in on me and give me an update. I sighed as I listened to her recount her crazy plan and how it backfired. What deeply annoyed me was that, in the deepest corner of my mind, everything Alex told me about the situation made my panties grow moist. My nipples pebbled at the mere thought. But I wouldn’t let Melissa control me. I did before, and it ruined me, but not again.

She’s a possessive control freak!

“Kyndall, I’m going to be honest with you. I’ve never seen someone so sure of herself. I was taken aback, and that’s really saying something.” Alex said before she became deathly quiet.

It had been a full minute before I broke the silence between us. “Alex, come out and ask your question.”

“Are you, um, shit, this is uncomfortable.” I heard her as she moved around her room. “Are you into that freaky shit like BDSM and crap?”

“Yes, and no. I love being submissive in the bedroom, but not outside of it.” I said as I closed eyes. It embarrassed me to admit my sexual habits to my family or friends, but I spilled the details to my cousin.

“Oh, you like to be told when to come like your girlfriend said, huh?”

And that’s why I don’t tell people my business. Exasperated, I responded, “Alright, Alex, that’s enough now. Anyway, how’s Marcus?”

Alex finally got off my nonexistent sex life and moved onto her relationship. When Alex talked about the shit Marcus had gotten into, I recoiled.
