I looked up at the golden moon high over our heads, where the Pendragon had hidden more resources I would supposedly need to utilize before the Stellar Council finally came for me. Things still felt overwhelming, but as long as I could boil it all down to the basic principles I had learned when I was a star-eyed, hero-worshiping little boy, I knew deep down that I could still pull it all off, with the right help.

I also realized that I had been zoning out just now, but Anahita did not seem offended. Instead, she was still staring at me with smoldering eyes.

"And now, you are the one staring at me," I said, and probably grinning like an idiot while I did so.

"I am," she said quietly, "and for much the same reason you were marveling at me. You have this tendency to surpass expectations, my Challenger, and often by an alarming degree." Her hand was still tracing ever so slowly along my chest. "I thought it would not happen so frequently if I made a point of keeping you in my gaze. Of trying to see you for the mighty man you truly were, one who was meant to do incredible things, such as end Tumults, discover ancient magic, and restore long-lost wonders.

"I thought, if I could simply expect great things from you and support you as you sought to bring them about, I would merely be vindicated, instead of surprised so often. And yet here I am, already confident of your ability to do amazing things, yet still finding that I have only scratched the surface of your potential." She had stopped pacing around me, and now leaned in front of me, with her hands resting upon my shoulders. "Do you have any idea what this feels like, my Challenger," she asked softly, "to already think the world of you, yet still be so surprised?"

I leaned closer to her face, enjoying the scent of her hair, the gleam of her eyes and teeth. Then, hoping that my breath didn't still smell like shawarma, I whispered back to her.

"I do. I'm currently on my fourth instance of that, and with the same Starsown."

My words pleased her.

"Well then, my Challenger and future High King," the soft-spoken woman whispered demurely. "I am all out of words again. Perhaps you should make use of my lips yourself, so that we can kiss like we once did before."

Who was I to refuse such a request?

My last semi-coherent thought before our mouths met was the hope that my lips would taste like something other than greasy, roasted beef, but if the nutmeg and cardamon-spiced woman had objections, she chose to solve them by kissing me all the harder. I let myself put my hands on her waist, making sure she had just enough support to where she wouldn't somehow lose her footing as she kissed someone over a foot taller than herself, and gently, carefully caressed her hips in small circles.

She responded to my touch by not bothering to maintain her balance at all.
