The Size of Your Audience Doesn’t Matter

I have presented in front of over 500 people on a big stage. I talked about everything between physical transformations to how to start an online business. I even shared my productivity hacks at one event [even with ADD as my companion]. I also emceed my first event in 2014, and I had a blast doing this kind of thing. This is ironic considering I’m actually an introvert. Yet, when our Sunday School class was in need of an assistant teacher (someone to teach once a month), I was terrified. Typically, we’ll have around 25 folks in our class. You would think it would be a breeze compared to presenting on stage with a PowerPoint to over 500 people. However, it was the subject matter that got me nervous.

ME: Me Lord? Really? Talking about your amazing power and grace? I don’t have a lot of Bible verses memorized. I’m no preacher man for sure. And, this is what you want?

GOD: Yep

ME: Ah man. Okay. I’ll do it.

That’s when I realized that the size of the audience doesn’t matter; the subject matter is what does.

To this day, as I get in front of our class, I’m still a little nervous. However, I have learned so much as I put together my lesson plans. He is grown me by leaps and bounds spiritually! My walk with Him is stronger than ever.

And, I get more “fired up” when one person in our class tells me that something helped them with their walk with God, versus the feelings felt under the lights, when speaking to hundreds of people at a conference.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. —1 PETER 4:10
