Ten:

Whatever the Queen’s original intent had been – it was lost to an entire night and day of Olaf’s party-incitement. Even my uneducated ass had heard of endless parties hosted by fae – ones where humans were dance until they were bones and then their bones would keep dancing more.

This was not one of those parties it turned out to be, but I could see how such rumors might have been fostered – given the circumstances.

Queen Talia was actually very kind and sweet. She was avidly listening to Maddie and my descriptions of our journey to her hidden kingdom.

Maddie had danced with me for hours and she’d even held me close to herself. I still smelt her scent on my skin as we were being led to our guest bedrooms by a pair of insanely tall seven-foot dark elf rangers. (Not that I personally knew what a dark elf ranger looked like. That was Maddie’s expertise.)

Maddie appeared to have been raised her entire life being educated and prepared for this vast immortal kingdom. Which wasn’t surprising, since her family were the most noted ruling vampyrs left in existence. The Aubrey Vampires were historically old and their contributions across time had been unfathomable to me.

They were beings of terrifying powers.

“Katrina.” Maddie said my name and I turned, and she leaned in, yanking my head and neck with her arms, and she planted a deep kiss on me. My lips part of their own volition and I felt my tongue flick, tasting her delicious ale-flavored lips and tongue.

I felt fire burning throughout my body and my mind was addled with the seemingly random burst of real affection from Maddie.

“What was that for?” I asked breathlessly against Maddie’s cheek.

“Why, didn’t you like it?” Maddie asked in a testy tone, and I bit down on my lip.

“Did you hear me say I didn’t like it. It was a great kiss.”

“Good, you better like it. These are my best kissing lips.” Maddie said, and amusement danced in her eyes.

“I didn’t think vampyrs could change their lips.”

“And I didn’t think you could properly pronounce vampyrs either.” Katrina purred at me.

“I may have been in a Tera Shelter my whole life, but I am capable of adaptation.”

Maddie’s eyes were hooded with emotions and the heat seemed to fade by a few noticeable degrees. After having such hormonal heat lapping at your skin, you feel the chilly bite of the freeze much more acutely.

“Don’t run away on me. I wouldn’t want to have to hunt you down and have my worst fears proven right about you.” Maddie said in a low tone.

“I don’t even know what that means.” I murmured back.

“Sure, you do.”

She turned and walked across the hall and gave me one final glance over her shoulder.

I was like a storm of girly emotions. My body ached from all the dancing and my middle burned from Maddie Aubrey turning me on and then sending me to bed unsatisfied. Not that I could demand she sleep with me
