“Fontana!” someone yelled.

“Are they here?”

“Don’t see ’em.”

“Maybe they’re up in the loft doing the nasty. I heard something when we crossed the yard. I’m going up.”

Oh no! Challie’s marvelous journey suddenly reversed directions, fading. “Donovan,” she whispered frantically, squirming. She tried to get her feet under him, couldn’t. “They’re coming! Get out, Donovan. Get off of me.”

He didn’t move, continued shaking violently, groaning his familiar sounds of fulfillment against her neck, his breath hot on her skin.

“Leave ’em alone. Married couples are supposed to get naked. I’m just worried about dessert. She promised.”

Married?

“Yeah, well, they haven’t tied the knot.”

“So?”

“I got a plan.”

“What plan?”

“Nothin’.”

Hearing the barn door shut, Challie caved in to relief. Until Donovan’s weight caused uneasiness.

Pieces of hay stuck to his hair. She plucked and flicked them away. When he didn’t move, she yanked on a thick lock.

“Ow!”

“So you are alive.”

“Barely,” he replied. He rose to his elbows, balanced his forehead on hers. “Exhausted. You wore me out, brutally. Blew my mind. Temporarily went deaf, dumb and blind.”

Challie lifted his head with both hands. “You’re a terrible man. You always make me lose myself when we do these luscious acts.” The last was so different, electrifying. It had blown her mind as well.

He nipped at her chin, easing gradually out of her body, igniting another glimmering tremor. Challie tensed, sucked in a quiet breath and tightened around him.

“Don’t do that again,” he warned.

“Tickles.”

“It’ll turn into more than just tickles.” He slid forward and backward twice more, quickly lifting her hips on each smooth stroke, hissing. “See?”

Ooh, Challie purred silently, tightening her legs, drawing him back to her again, encouraging, for a third time. But she really shouldn’t. Wouldn’t. She pressed her hand to his shoulder. Donovan withdrew slowly, steadily, completely.

Frowning, he asked, “Did you bite me?”

She lifted his shirt collar, ran her fingers over the scores left behind on his shoulder—her brand. “Teeth imprint. I had to do something to keep from screeching the first time.” The second loud shriek had a voice of its own. Challie yanked on his ear for laughing. “Hush. Your friends might be outside the door. Did you hear them talking?”

“Distant tones bleeding into the frenzy. I was on Planet Ecstasy with you. Didn’t want to leave there.” Cupping her face, he kissed her nose, her cheek and nuzzled her ear.

She hadn’t wanted to leave their special place, either. As usual, all good things must end. Maybe even the ache she was now feeling.

On the other hand, she wasn’t sure what to make of Gunther and Moretti’s conversation other than their reference to marriage, which was absurd. “You must tell them we’re not married, tell them we’re not getting married.” They were his friends, which seemed fitting for him to explain.

“Challie,” Donovan said. Furrows creased his brow as he rose up. He readjusted and tucked away the object of her satisfying imprisonment. “We need to talk.”

Already she missed having him inside her, but she sat up, flinching, and smoothed her jumper. Her torn panties were crumpled on the floor.
