1. Except where noted the details on the development of rent controls derive from interviews and the project consultants.
2. From 1926 tenants of furnished accommodation and sub-tenants also benefitted from controlled rents (if the property was built before 1919 and they had been the tenants since then). In 1935 all rents were reduced by 10%, but this was repealed at the end of 1937 (Information supplied by Christian Topalov).
3. A useful account of post war French controls is provided by Duclaud-Williams, 1978, 27-63.
