Brandon spent a fitful night dreaming of Cara. In his dream, he’d taken her on the couch, in the shower, on the counter, and on the floor. His body was in a permanent state of arousal. He’d awoken early in a cold sweat to the sounds of splashing water.

It had taken him a few seconds to realize where he was. When that occurred, the previous night’s events came crashing down upon him like a lead weight.

He’d slept with his best friend’s little sister.

He was slime. Hell, he was worse than slime. Brandon didn’t even rank with sludge.

Last night Cara had managed to single-handedly press every one of his hot buttons. He’d known better than to mix sex with emotions being burned in the past had taught him that.

Yet within seconds, sweet little innocent Cara had done what no other woman in the past five years had managed. She’d gotten to him.

Okay, maybe she wasn’t so sweet. Definitely not so little anymore. She’d filled out in all the right places. As for innocent, after last night he’d strike that assessment from his mind. She definitely had enough experience to whet his appetite for more.

Not that his desires needed any extra help. By the time she turned eighteen, he’d thought of little else when he was around her. Now that he’d had her, he could think of little else.

The splashes grew louder.

Brandon kicked off the wool covers and pulled on a pair of swim trunks. He could hear Granger’s loud snores as he padded down the hall. He laughed to himself. Some things never changed. His best friend always could sleep through anything.

Brandon entered the living room area. Singing accompanied the splashing water. He smiled as he recognized the off-key warble. Cara was doing her best Katy Perry impression, if he wasn’t mistaken.

Brandon chuckled again, then made his way to the kitchenette. He needed coffee and time to gather his thoughts before he faced her again. They needed to talk before Granger woke up.

Because her case involved the firm and his associate, there was no way he’d be able to avoid her. At least while the investigation was ongoing. Not that he wanted to avoid her, but Brandon knew he should.

Being around Cara would only lead to further temptation, which in turn would increase their chances of being caught. Brandon knew that was a risk he couldn’t take. Granger would never forgive him. Hell, he’d probably never forgive himself.

The situation needed to be addressed and dealt with swiftly. Just like his law cases. Quick. Clean. To the point.

With coffee in hand and his mind percolating, he stepped out into the bright Arizona sunshine. Cara swam a short distance away. Her face was tilted toward the sun and her eyes were closed. With her long black hair floating around her head, she looked like a water nymph.

Brandon watched her for several minutes, enjoying the gleeful expression on her face as she sang without self-consciousness.

He’d always envied that about her. She could let go at the drop of a hat and just be herself.
