Chapter Ten
Hungry as Dogs
The Christ-like Virtue of Charity
Charity, when it immediately comes to mind, conjures images of starving children, abused animals, and possibly tax deductions. For the most part, people react by either reaching for their wallet or putting their hands over it protectively.
In a church setting, it is not about simply putting money in the Sunday offering plate. Yes, as followers of the way of Jesus, we are expected to give generously of our money, but this is a bare-minimum investment; much more is required of us. The opportunities for charity, and the many different definitions of it, are vast. For the intent of this virtue, letâs concentrate on going beyond giving to charity, and moving into a more Christ-like life of charity.
