Participatory Exercise

Following the wrap-up, it is often helpful to have everyone participate in a short exit exercise in which they weigh in on what was said during the meeting by voting on what they feel were the important issues discussed or what they feel the three highest priorities should be; alternatively, they might be given the opportunity provide written comments regarding their favorite activities within the library and so on.

This exercise can take many different forms and can be as simple as handing out sticky notes and asking participants to write what they feel is the most important issue discussed. Another exercise offers attendees three different colored stickers representing their first, second, and third choices, and invites them to place their stickers next to the written notes from the meeting concerning the issues they feel are most important. Another effective exercise is to have attendees fill out exit tickets summarizing their most important takeaway from the meeting (see figure 3.7).
