“Can I have my thousand coins now?” Pied Piper Mickey asked.

The mayor frowned. He was, you will remember, a very greedy man. It had only taken Pied Piper Mickey a few minutes to get rid of the bugs. That hardly seemed worth a thousand coins to the mayor.

“Here’s fifty coins,” the mayor offered.

“But our deal was for a thousand coins!” Pied Piper Mickey cried.

“And now it’s fifty,” replied the mayor.

“Oh, is that so?” Pied Piper Mickey said, raising an eyebrow. Then he winked at the townspeople and put his pipe to his mouth.

Pied Piper Mickey began playing the strange, screechy music again. The townspeople looked around nervously. What if the piper brought all the bugs back?

But only one bug appeared. A single gnat flew into the town square and landed on the mayor.
