Functions can return a value. In the following program the sum of two numbers will be calculated. The program is written as a single PHP file.

The inputs are taken from two text boxes in the form inside the PHP file.

<?php

function sum ($num1,$num2){

$sum =$num1 +$num2;

return $sum;

}

if (isset($_POST['submit'])){

$sum=sum($_POST['num1'],$_POST['num2']);

print"<p>The sum of these numbers is <b>$sum</b><p>";

}

print"<form action='function.php' method='post'><p>";

print"First Number:<input type='text' name='num1' size='5'><p>";

print"Second Number:<input type='text' name='num2' size='5'><p>";

print"<input type='submit' name='submit' value='ADD'>";

print"</form>";

?>
