I rolled over in bed, because the sun was shining in my face. I tried to go back to sleep, but I had to pee. There was no way I could sleep without hitting the bathroom first. I slid off the mattress, preparing to make the dash up the hall in my underwear, when my phone rang. I glanced at the screen and saw Summer’s name.

“Good morning, beautiful.” Maybe if I started talking like Lucas, she’d look at me the way she looks at him.

“Are you trapped, too?” she asked in a rush.

“What?”

“Are you trapped, too?” she repeated slowly.

“What are you talking about?”

She spoke even slower this time, enunciating each word, “Are you locked in your room?”

“Why would I be locked in my room?”

“Okay, let me start over,” she said in exasperation. “Are you in your room right now?”

“Yes,” I answered in confusion.

“Are you alone in your room?”

“Affirmative.” She still wasn’t making any sense.

“Have you left your room yet this morning?”

“I was about to go to the bathroom until you called, but I stopped to pick up the phone. What’s wrong with you? I don’t have time for twenty questions. I’ve got to pee.”

“Don’t snap at me,” Summer quickly reprimanded.

“I wasn’t snapping,” I grumbled.

“Yes, you were,” she argued then dropped it. “Now, walk over to your door and open it.”

I did as I was told, but when I tried to open the door, it wouldn’t budge. The knob turned, and the door had about an inch of give before slamming tightly shut. “What the…?” I mumbled into the phone, baffled about how I was locked in my room.

“So, you are trapped.” Summer sighed. “Me too. Looks like Hunter and Lucas have gotten their revenge. Hope you don’t have to pee that bad, because I think we’ll be stuck for a while. Unless we’re willing to meet their demands, which are ridiculous, and I won’t give them the satisfaction. I’m prepared to camp out for a while.”

I put the phone on speaker and set it on the desk before walking over to the window. Summer’s room was on the second story, with no roof under it. But mine wasn’t. I’d just crawl through my window, then find a ladder and help her down. I could be her knight in shining armor. I tried to lift the glass, but it was also unwilling to budge. I pounded on the pane, trying to unstick it, but had zero luck.

“Don’t bother with the window,” Summer said. “They’ve wedged it shut.”

“How do you know?”

“That’s what they did to mine, so I’m assuming that’s what they did to yours. Although, I’m not sure how they got up here, or managed to get the pole in place without waking me up.”

I examined the outside of my window. Sure enough, someone had placed a wooden rod between the moving pane and the top of the frame. The rod had even been taped in place, so it was unlikely I’d be able to hit the window and shake it loose.
