I’ve got a better plan: Ride smart, live long, and die of old age. | take good care of myself. | eat a healthy diet, | exercise every day, and | ride safe. | do this not because I’m afraid of dying. | do it because the longer І stay healthy, the longer! can ride motorcycles. If there's one thing want you to know about me, it's that | love toride. Alot of people know alot about me. Other people think they know me because so much has been written about me. Some of it is true, but most is bullshit. And none of itis relevant here; the only thing that matters is that | love motorcycles. Most motorcycle owners really aren't serious riders. They ride maybe once or twice on a weekend and only whenthe sunis out. They don't get up in the morning and ride to work in the cold or rain. More often than not they get in their cars instead of on their bikes. That's not me. Becoming a serious rider is no easy thing to do. As soon as you tell people you're interested in riding motorcycles, you'll start to hear an endless stream of warnings, mostly some variation of “Motorcycles are dangerous!” This is true—motorcycles are dangerous, but hey, life itself is dangerous. Only you can decide if the freedom and excitement a motorcycle can provide is worth the level of risk. If you're like me and motorcycling is in your blood, there's only one answer: "Yes." As soonas you start riding a motorcycle, you'll find you are part of alarger community of riders. The first thing you'll notice is that other motorcycle riders wave at you, even if you don’t know them from Adam. Here's a word of advice—wave back. It doesn't matter if the other rider is some kid on a sport bike, some adventure-tourer traveling the globe on a big dual-purpose bike,
