Chapter

Seventeen

FERRY

“Ferry?” Harlow’s voice hovered near my elbow. “You okay?”

I shook myself from the memory I’d been lost in. It was one of the many I’d hoarded from the past few days, involving me in the shower with Leo. On my knees. His cock in my throat. “Yeah…sorry. Just distracted.”

Harlow smirked like he knew exactly where my mind was at. “You know, you don’t have to be here, right? You don’t actually work here.”

“I know,” I said, looking around the gym. I fought a yawn. For some reason, I was way more exhausted than normal. Perhaps it was all the excitement of having Leo back in my life. I should probably use this time to catch up on sleep, but the thought of being in my tiny flat alone was…depressing. “Don’t have a lot else to do though. Leo’s on shift until later.”

Harlow’s face lit up as he started walking. “Come on, I know the perfect distraction. We can burn some time.”

I paused as we pulled level with the reception desk. Harlow nipped behind it, grabbing his mate and kissing him thoroughly. Unlike other times, I didn’t have to look away. It was no longer a reminder of what I was missing.

“Keep everyone out of the boxing room for an hour,” Harlow told Bailey.

Bailey sighed, squeezing Harlow’s shoulders. “Fine, but you know the rules. Any blood and you’re on clean-up duty.”

“You got it.” Harlow pecked Bailey’s lips again before flitting off and leaving me rushing to follow him.

I followed him to the room where I’d sparred with Leo, stretching my arms as a slow smile worked over my face. Harlow was right. A distraction sounded perfect.

And doing so by beating the shit out of this mouthy demon? Even better. I might be tired, but I’d always have energy for this. Harlow was growing on me, but we had centuries of animosity to work through.

“Want to box? Or another fighting style?” Harlow asked, ducking under the ropes, leaving me to follow.

“How about we just hit each other until one of us taps out?”

Harlow flashed his teeth at me, settling into a defensive stance, his hands hovering in front of him. “Perfect. Powers?”

“Of course.” I settled into a crouch. “And no holding back now.”

Harlow rolled his perfectly made-up eyes. “Bitch, please.”

There was a pause before we launched ourselves at each other. Unlike every other time we’d sparred, I didn’t have a massive hood hanging over my face and getting in my way. This should be easy.

But…it wasn’t.

The first indication that something wasn’t right came when Harlow hooked his foot behind my knee. My leg buckled and I fell to the ground like a boulder. My power shot out to catch me, but dissolved like smoke on the air, doing nothing to slow me.

“What was that?” Harlow gaped down at me.

“I have no idea,” I grumbled, pushing to my feet. Satan, I could feel where my side had hit the ground. What was going on? “Let’s go again.”

Harlow eyed me warily like he was going to argue.
