Chapter Seven

Dillon felt Eleanor’s shivery response, saw her eyes flame with unmanageable desire and couldn’t stop himself from following the path of his finger with his lips. A small lick here. A careful nip there. A full-fledged kiss to the spot between the gorgeous mounds that accepted his homage with liquid tremors.

Palming each jeans-clad cheek, Dillon pulled Eleanor into the curve of his desire, molding her supple body to his. Deciding she wasn’t nearly close enough, he dove in with another mind-destroying kiss, feeling suddenly clumsy in his attempt to un-snap her jeans.

Eleanor’s sudden drag of breath as his knuckles brushed her navel gave Dillon the room he was desperate for.

In a moment of utter stillness, he suddenly realized Eleanor had grasped his hands, halting his attempt to unsnap and unzip her pants. She was panting heavily, her look distracted as she leaned away from him, plopping tiredly onto the bed.

“That tomboy you knew grew up. You don’t really want to do this.”

“I don’t?” He gulped, the remoteness of her voice splashed like cold water on his out-of-control desire.

“You don’t. If we do…this, we can’t get an annulment.” Eleanor distractedly pushed her hair away from her face.

“An annulment.” Dillon ground his teeth painfully. He hated sounding like an idiot, especially when all he could see was a scared little girl staring out of Eleanor’s eyes. A scared little girl, who’d never had anyone to take care of her. Ever. And who was now vehemently pushing him away.

Get a grip! He warned himself.

“You’re right.” Dillon tried not to let his frustration show in his voice. He wasn’t successful. He had to get out of her bedroom. Fast. The hurt look on Eleanor’s face spelled disaster if he didn’t plan to wrap her up in his arms and hold on tight.

“Don’t worry about it, El. Just chalk it up to raging hormones,” he said, carefully backing out the door. “I don’t know about you, but I haven’t been with anyone in a long time.” With that stupid, asinine remark slipping past his lips, Dillon turned and made good his escape.

Well, hell. He should have at least pretended he was a gentleman. Heading for the shower, Dillon continued to swear softly. How was he ever going to explain to Eleanor that even though she wasn’t the woman he was interested in making his lifelong mate, even though she didn’t meet even one of his criteria for an acceptable, comfortable wife, he found her, to his uncomfortable dismay, incredibly attractive and sexy? And now, to make matters even worse, he couldn’t keep his mind…or his hands off her.
