“OW,” Matthew groaned as he tried to move his legs. The skin covering his shins felt tight and hot almost as if he’d been…burned!

Matthew sat up immediately and gauged the position of the sun. It was well past noon. Closer to maybe three or four judging by the sun’s slow descent. Which meant that he and Rinny had been exposed to its powerful rays since late morning.

Matthew could see his thighs and shins below his bathing trunks. He did a cooked lobster justice. Inspecting his arms, he found them in a similar state. When he tried to bend his elbow, he feared the skin might actually rip like cheap paper.

“Rinny,” he said trying to wake her.

He didn’t dare touch her. The one piece and the sarong had saved her most of her body. But her arms and the bottom of her legs were as red as his. If she wanted to, she could probably fry an egg on her bare thigh. Somehow Matthew doubted that she would want to.

Luckily for her, the impossibly large hat she wore covered most of her face and shoulders. But the wind must have pushed back the left brim a bit, exposing a patch of her cheek that he could see was a vibrant shade of scarlet.

The other side of her hat, though, had, he noted thankfully, shaded his face as well. He lifted his hand to his right cheek and winced. At least it had protected half of his face. “Rinny, wake up. Come on, Rinny. We’ve got to get out of the sun.”

Corinne stirred. She’d been having such a delightful dream. Matthew was kissing her neck and trailing his hand down her throat and over her breast and the fluttery feeling in her stomach was turning into something more urgent. “Matthew,” she breathed.

Then, as if she’d heard the sound of her own voice, heard the huskiness and the plea, she sat up abruptly. She’d been dreaming about the wrong man. Maybe Matthew was the man she was prepared to trust with her body, but she couldn’t forget who had already claimed her heart.

It was…His name was…Oh, my goodness! She forgot his name. It was right there. Right on the tip of her tongue, something with a B….

Brendan. Phew, she sighed in relief.

She wasn’t fickle. She wouldn’t be fickle. She’d said she loved Brendan. She’d told him and the world as much. Corinne was going to stick by that declaration come hell or high water. Or Matthew.

“Rinny, we’ve got to get out of the sun. We’re both burned to a crisp.”

It wasn’t until he said those words that Corinne felt a distinct stinging all over her lower body. Looking down at herself she could see the patterns of red along her skin. Her sarong covered
