Twenty-Seven
The two men manhandled Kate along the hallway and opened a door to the right, pushing her in to a large lounge area. The room comprised of expensive looking oak furniture and a leather three piece suite, the cream sofa and chairs positioned in the shape of a crescent moon. Her body stiffened when she noticed a black crucifix painted on the hardwood flooring in front of the sofa, the surrounding area marked by an array of unusual squiggles and images daubed on the floor in black paint.
âWhat is this?â Kate asked.
âItâs a better choice for the service than the kitchen. Thatâs what it is,â Gonzo leered. âThere will be more room to do our stuff.â
ââDo your stuff?â And what are those images on the floor?â
âItâs Enochian writing,â Gonzo said proudly. âI painted those symbols on the floor.â He pointed a finger towards the heavens. âHe allowed His servitors to express themselves through me.â
Kateâs eyes narrowed. âWhat are you talking about?â
King Mod smiled. âIt is the language used by the High Fatherâs angels.â
Kate frowned, but she closed her eyes and said nothing more. The squiggles looked like something a three-year-old might have drawn, and yet this scruffy clown thought his hand was being guided by some higher power. These people were delusional. More importantly, her family was in serious trouble. And she had no idea how to extricate them from the situation.
They guided her through the lounge then through another door that led into a narrow side corridor. They passed a downstairs bathroom and continued on until they reached a modest sized office situated towards the back of the house. The study was the smallest room in the property, measuring no more than ten-feet-by-twelve, and the moment Gonzo closed the door behind them the room flooded with the stink of body odour.
âIâm feeling a little dizzy,â Kate said, addressing herself to King Mod. âDo you think we might open a window?â
Her eyes turned towards the sash window, and the wintry expanse of garden beyond. In her mind she punched Gonzo in the nuts then made a dash for freedom, sliding up the windowâs movable panel before King Mod even had a chance to realise what was happening, the Sire watching helplessly as she threw herself out the open window and escaped into the night.
She did nothing, other than cross her arms over her chest and shake uncontrollably.
âI donât think we need a window opening,â King Mod said. âYouâre shaking now. I can see youâre cold, and thereâs nothing but wind and rain out there.â
âIâm shaking because Iâm scared,â Kate admitted. âBut Iâm also warm to the point of passing out. We canât talk if Iâm passed out.â
âTalk?â King Mod said.
âAbout Sam. About our daughter.â
He smiled unpleasantly. âOh, Iâll get to the bottom of that without any help from you.â
âThen, what are we ââ
âDoing in here? Iâve been telling Gonzo about your impressive nipples. Look, they even show through that fancy dress youâre wearing.â
Kate folded her arms more tightly over her chest, suddenly regretting how well the off-the-shoulder outfit showed off her svelte figure.
