Chapter Fourteen

The Check ‘N Go was the quietest it had ever been on a Saturday morning. They hadn’t worked a Saturday since they had been employed at the check cashing place. The girls enjoyed their Friday night which consisted of dinner and dancing. The time appeared to be moving so slow. Brittany could barely keep her eyes open. She kept checking her phone to see if Jarvis had called. She knew his parents had explained to him that she received a last minute notice to work. While she was waiting she decided to text Richard. A couple of exchanges led to another outing. She let him know that she would meet him at his place around seven. They had only had a brief conversation since the morning he had given her an edited version of his big fame and prestigious street status he formerly had. Although she was thinking about Richard, Brittany really wanted to talk to Jarvis and find out about this release he was expecting. She couldn’t go against him and ask his parents for any updates. She wasn’t really sure if he had even shared the news with his parents. The few times she had been around his parents they never even mentioned Jarvis. His parents really didn’t know that Brittany and Jarvis considered themselves being in a committed relationship.

Jada was scrolling down her Facebook timeline. Crystal looked over her shoulder and noticed that she was lurking Bryson’s page. She came across a picture came across a picture with Bryson and Danitra. Jada realized it had to be old due to the fact that his dreads weren’t as long as they were when she met him. Jada looked back at Crystal to see if she had peeped what she had just noticed. Crystal tapped Jada on the shoulder and grabbed her phone. Crystal took a few steps with Jada in tow. Crystal placed the phone in front of Brittany. The look on Brittany’s face was priceless. It was though her eyes were flashing as if it were an ambulance or police cruiser.

Brittany took her eyes off the picture, “Have you talked to him?”

Jada wanted to be truthful. She knew that she needed to be. That was the issue she and her friends were having. They need to be more open and honest with one another. She had been talking on the phone with Bryson every day since he left from coming up to her job after he had been released from jail. She just hadn’t seen him. She knew she couldn’t take too long answering the question. Jada needed to answer and she needed to answer fast. She hadn’t asked him anything about the murder but she knew her friends wouldn’t believe her. “He old news. He has text me a few times. I prolly replied once or twice. It wasn't anything but that when can I see you text. I wanted to reply, I am a scary broad and I don’t mess around with killers. I refrained.
