5.4.6 Timers

In the event the network is not able to respond due to excessive faults, watchdog timers are involved which operate independent of the network and monitor certain defined events that need to happen at fixed time intervals. If this does not happen, the watchdog timer fires and forces recovery procedures through different levels of re-initialization and resets different functions of the network to a known state. These watchdog timers are resettable and its parameters can be set to the needs of the network. These types of actions are typically taken by NFV MANO or other higher-level supervisory systems residing in OSS and BSS.
